Dr. AV Praveen Kumar

Dr. AV Praveen Kumar is a Mysore-based Interventional Cardiologist, currently working at the Narayana Multispeciality Hospital. He holds an MBBS degree, and Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) titles in General Medicine as well as Cardiology.

Dr. Praveen Kumar has held the posts of Senior Registrar (Neuro Intensive Care Medicine) at Abhaya Hospital, and Senior Registrar (General Medicine) at St. Martha's Hospital. While he was pursuing his DNB in Medicine and Cardiology, he was resident at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences in Bangalore from October 2006 to January 2011. He subsequently held the titles of In-House Consultant at the CSI Hospital and Junior Consultant (Cardiology) at the MSR Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore.

Over the years, Dr. Praveen Kumar has gained experience in various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including echocardiography, angiography, stenting, pacemaker implantations as well as balloon mitral, pulmonary and aortic valvuloplasties. His training and experience in hands-on cases has enabled him to evaluate and manage various clinical scenarios confidently. He is familiar with non-invasive imaging such as Holter, trans thoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, exercise TMT, dobutamine atropine stress echocardiography, CV computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear imaging. He is also gaining in experience with invasive coronary angiography and interventions, having assisted in numerous procedures and now performing them independently as well. 

Dr. Praveen Kumar enjoys teaching and has been involved with explaining disease processes and management plans to different groups including doctors, specialist nurses, medical students, and student nurses. He has learnt to emphasise the different aspects important to each specific group and has taught practical procedures and clinical skills to his PRHOs and junior residents, encouraging them to participate when confident. In addition, Dr. Kumar has taken active part in clinical research and writing of papers, many of which have been published in peer-reviewed journals. He also keeps in touch with the latest medical norms and technologies by regularly attending workshops and seminars.
